Care recipient (cr) is partially paralyzed on one side and needs instructions on how to get up off the floor independently

Try: Before attempting to help cr stand up after a fall make sure he she has not been injured if there are any cuts bruises or painful areas make cr comfortable on the floor while you get help do no attempt to move cr until help arrives getting up from a fall #have cr assume a side-sitting position with his her unaffected side close to a heavy chair or other object that will not move #suggest that cr place his her unaffected forearm on the seat of the chair and have him her lean on his here elbow or hand ask cr to shift his her weight forward onto his her knees and lift his her hips until he she is in a kneeling position #supporting him herself with his her unaffected arm bring unaffected foot forward and place it flat on the floor #pushing with the unaffected arm and leg lift body upwards twist hips toward the chair and sit on the seat
