Try: #determine if there is a cause for the repetitive action for example an article of clothing is too tight or the cr needs to use the bathroom addressing the underlying cause may reduce the repetitive actions #determine if the action is harmful or distressing #offer an alternative direction for the behavior by giving the cr a soft bandana to run through the fingers or a small stack of simple laundry to fold washcloths rags matched socks etc #if you see a cr cr’s behavior linked to a need for one-to-one emotional attention and you can’t give it right away let the cr know how soon you can sit or walk with him or her and in the meantime give him or her a game or activity to engage until you are free
