Care recipient (cr) refuses all suggestions made by caregiver (cg)

Try: Refusal may just be an automatic reaction to each of your suggestions because the word no is still in the cr’s memory and is easy to say your suggestion may be misunderstood because of the cr’s hearing or cognitive problems try cuing or acting out your requested task for example put on your coat to go outside if this is what you are requesting the cr to do this could provide the cr with a more easily understood description of your requested action sometimes when verbal words and requests bring on refusal the written word can still be processed and understood try writing your suggestion down on a 3 x 5 card and simply hand it to the cr instead of asking verbally once the initial no is uttered to an initial request subsequent no’s will more than likely be forthcoming because it then becomes an automatic and repetitive action it will help if you stop the request at this point use something to distract the cr’s mind and then come back to the initial request
